When the sun goes down, Seoul doesn't sleep—it exercises! If you are looking for a place to walk, jog, run, cycle, or simply chill out and enjoy the evening breeze, Dorim River (Dorimcheon) is the perfect destination.
While the massive Han River gets most of the tourist spotlight, Dorimcheon is a local favorite that cuts right through the city. Here is why it is the ultimate spot for night owls looking to break a sweat.

Unmatched Safety After Dark
One of the most amazing things about living in Seoul is how safe it feels, even late at night. If you are heading out for a run past 10:00 PM, you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

The paths along the Dorim River are brightly lit, frequented by locals, and exceptionally secure. It is completely normal to see women exercising alone safely along the river late into the evening, reflecting the welcoming and active nature of the community.

My Nightly Routine: From Dorim to the Han
Because my house is located near the Dorim River, I am out here almost every single night. Whether I am going for a quick, decent jog or embarking on a long bike ride, this is my ultimate starting point.

For my cycling routes, I always start right here, ride through the Dorim River path, and connect all the way out to the majestic Hangang (Han River). From there, I make my way completely out of Seoul just by following the expansive bike path network.

Stay tuned: I will be posting a full, detailed guide on navigating from Dorimcheon to the Han River in a future post!
The Path Layout: A Cyclist and Runner's Dream
The bike paths in Seoul are exceptionally well constructed. The roads are smooth, pristine, and beautifully paved, making for an effortless ride.

The layout is brilliant: there are always two dedicated pathways running side by side—one specifically for walking and running, and a separate one designated just for cycling. Furthermore, these dual paths exist on both sides of the river! If you feel like a change of scenery or prefer the atmosphere on the opposite bank, simply find a nearby pedestrian bridge and cross over. The warm city lights reflecting off the calm water make either side a beautiful choice.

The Urban Underpasses
Since the Dorim River cuts directly through central residential and commercial districts of Seoul, the path features a lot of underpasses beneath elevated subway lines and major roadways.

However, it never feels claustrophobic because all of these underpasses remain wide open on the river side. These massive concrete structures provide a unique urban aesthetic while keeping you sheltered and connected to the flowing water.

Accessibility & Rest Stops
Dorimcheon is incredibly easy to access if you live anywhere near the area. Just find the closest point to the river on your digital map, and you will find an entry point. There are numerous well-lit staircases and dedicated bike ramps scattered throughout the entire stretch of the river path.

If you ever get tired, there are plenty of chairs and benches situated along the path. Feel free to stop by, take a seat, and just soak in the vibrant night atmosphere.
Pro Tip: I will be writing a future blog post entirely dedicated to how to use a simple, free smartphone app for finding the best bike roads in Korea, so keep an eye out for that!
